True lemon balm hydrosol! Organic! True lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is one of the oldest and best-known medicinal herbs. It was known in antique Greece and Arabia; since Paracelsus, it is famous as a heal-all in the European healing arts. Lemon balm belongs to the lamiaceae and grows mainly in the Mediterranean and the Orient. Harvested before flowering, the whole plant yields the essential oil and hydrosol. Lemon balm hydrosol has a grassy, fresh scent. It is said to be beneficial for dry and mature as well as young and blemished skin. It can be used partly or wholly as the aqueous phase in creams or lotions, or as a facial tonic for blemished, oily and irritated skin. Men appreciate an after-shave with lemon balm hydrosol - it is especially calming for skin irritated from shaving. For a good nights sleep, take a bath in the evening with lemon balm hydrosol added to the water. Lemon balm hydrosol can also be used as a base in natural perfume making, combined with floral or citrus notes, as well as balsamic essential oils, for subtle compositions.
