Humectant, stabilizer, preservative in one - food grade! Propylene glycol is an alcohol also known under the name propanediol. It is related to glycerin and has similar properties. In cosmetics, it is used as a humectant and stabilizer. It is less sticky than glycerin. Propylene glycol can dissolve essential oils, colorants and fragrances very well, and is extremely kind to mucous membranes. Thus, it is especially suited for eye care products and lipsticks. Additionally, propylene glycol has antibacterial and antifungal properties and therefor acts as a preservative. It is used in many pharmacist's base creams and in deodorants.
