The skin care oil of the Hawaiians The candlenut tree (Aleurites moluccana) belongs to the spurge family. It is an evergreen tree with white flower heads, which grow into spherical fruit with a drupaceous seed. These seeds yield the top-quality candlenut oil; it is rich in linoleic and linolenic acid. The oil is carefully cleaned and refined. Candlenut oil is said to aid the natural production of ceramides in the epidermis and to strengthen the barrier function of the skin - which helps the skin to retain moisture more effectively. Another advantage of this oil is the swift absorption into the skin; the skin is left feeling soft and smooth, but not greasy. A pleasant oil for creams and lotions for dry, stressed skin. It is also used as a massage oil against stretch marks and cellulite. In Asia, the roasted seeds are used as a seasoning; the oil is used for making candles and soaps.
