The name sacha inchi has its origin in the old Inca language Quechua. "Sacha" means hill, "Inchi" means nut. Thus, it is also called mountain peanut. The plant (Plukenetia volubilis) belongs to the Euphorbia Family. It is a vine growing in high altitudes in the rainforest of the Amazon region, mainly in Peru. The fruit has four lobes, and is still harvested, dried and processed by hand today. The oil obtained from the seeds is yellow-green and has a peculiar scent - it smells of leaves and beans. It contains more than 90% unsaturated fatty acids, more than any other oil. 90% of those belong to the Omega-3-, Omega-6- und Omega-9 fatty acids. Thanks to its high content of vitamin E, it is nevertheless stable and does not oxidize easily. Additionally, sacha inchi oil contains a high amount of vitamin A and phytosteroles (ß-sitosterol and stigmasterol). This unique composition makes sacha inchi oil an interesting dietary supplement, as well as a versatile ingredient for skin care products. It is especially suited for mature skin and anti aging skin care, due to the high content of alpha linolenic acid, linoleic acid and oleic acid. Irritated skin prone to inflammation also benefits from this oil. In hair care, it is used for creating an air permeable coating that gives the hair shine and elasticity without stressing the scalp.
