High-class virgin olive oil! The olive (Olea europaea) has been cultivated since ancient times (records exist from Crete from the year 3500 B.C.). The gnarled trees grow slow: it takes ten years before they bear fruit that are suitable for oil production. In ancient Greece and Rome olive oil has been used for culinary, medicinal, cosmetic purposes, for making ointments and soaps. For real virgin olive oil, the fruit are washed, then cold-pressed and filtered. This high quality oil is an exquisite base oil for creams and lotions and of course a classic oil for soapmaking. It is only slowly absorbed by the skin and is therefore most suited for dry, flaky skin, and popular in products for dry hair and split ends. It has a high content of oleic acid and therefore high oxidation stability. Its high content of squalane (up to 2 %) makes it an interesting oil for mature skin.
