The germ of wheat (Tricitum vulgare) is carefully pressed to produce this oil rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids (80 %). It contains a high amount of lecithin plus vitamin A and D. Especially valuable are the naturally contained tocopheroles (vitamin E), which act as anti-oxidants and free radical neutralizers. Wheat germ oil has been a popular skin-friendly oil since ancient times. It has a beneficial effect on the elasticity of the connective tissue, and is a fountain of youth for mature skin. It also helps to alleviate eczema. On the whole, it makes the skin smooth and tender, and improves complexion. Cold-pressed wheat germ oil has an intensive odor of fresh grains. You can dilute one part of wheat germ oil with 9 parts of any other vegetable oil. Wheat germ oil does not have a very long shelf life. It is best to keep it in the refrigerator.
