Oil from our native canola! Bright yellow rapeseed fields in spring are harbingers of one of the most versatile and healthy oils: regional canola oil (Brassica napus and Brassica rapa). This oil has been cultivated since thousands of years in the Mediterranean region; today it is grown in Northern Europe, too. It has an excellent fatty acid profile: appr. 6% saturated, 66% unsaturated and 17% polyunsaturated fatty acids. The unsaturated fatty acids are 18% linoleic acid (omega-6 fatty acid) and 9% linolenic acid (omega-3 fatty acid). Additionally, canola oil contains high amounts of carotenoids, vitamin E and K, provitamin A, and a multitude of phytochemicals. Canola oil has only recently gained more importance in skin care.
