Konjac flour originates in Japan. It is obtained from the tuber of Amorphophallus konjac. It consists mainly of glucomannan, a carbohydrate that the human organism cannot break down/digest, in other words: fiber.
Glucomannan is cold soluble, gluten free and has an extraordinary swelling capacity.
If you ingest konjac flour with a little water or add it as a gelling agent to sauces or deserts, the swelling will cause the food to stay longer in the stomach. This means that a feeling of satiety will last longer. Thus, konjac flour can support weight loss.
Caloric value: 100 g konjac flour contains appr. 12 kcal and consist of 70 % soluble fiber.
