DESCRIPTION:

The most stable of all plant oils!

Meadowfoam seed oil is pressed from the seeds of Limnanthes alba. This plant grows naturally in wetlands, f.e. in Northern California and Oregon.

In America, this plant is called meadowfoam because it looks as though the meadows it grows on are covered with a foam made out flowers (just like our native cuckoo flower).
Meadowfoam belongs to the cruciferous plants and is thus related to the cuckoo flower.

Meadowfoam seed oil is different from all other plant oils. It is produced by mechanical pressing, is then deodorized. The resulting oil is light yellow and almost odorless. It contains no unsaturated fatty acids at all, but more than 90% extremely long, saturated fatty acids like eicosenoic acid, erucic acid and docosadienoic acid. These fatty acids make it so stable an oil.

As these fatty acids are relatively large, they cannot penetrate into the skin very deeply. Thus, they form a protective layer on the skins surface. If combined with oils that penetrate the skin easily, it makes an excellent and nurturing skin care for dry, sensitive skin.
As meadowfoam oil does not spread easily, it is well suited for eye care products.
Latest tests show that mixing with meadowflower oil might protect other, more unstable oils from oxidation.
