The greyish-green, soft haired leaves of Salvia officinalis smell familiar: of throat lozenges and Italian cuisine. They produce an essential oil that has many uses, particularly in mouth hygiene products like toothpastes and mouthwashes, and in deodorants. Its characteristic, sweet and herbal scent does also give a unique note to natural perfumes and soap fragrance blends. It goes well with all citrus scents and all other green and herbaceous notes.
