Vetiver is certainly one of the most striking essential oils. Its deep, dry, musty and earthy scent is indispensable in perfume making. The roots of this sweet grass have been cultivated since ancient times for their scent. Today, vetiver is also grown because its dense root systems prevent soil erosion. Vetiver is a very good fixative. This essential oil calms and grounds, and is a fine tonic for the mature skin in all skin care products. If you mix a small amount of perfume, or want to use vetiver essential oil in creams, it is advisable to dilute the oil in ethanol (1 part vetiver to 9 parts ethanol) for easier dosage. One drop undiluted oil can completely ruin a delicate fragrance blend, or dominate a cream.
