This beautiful, tall sage with its fair, violet bracts that catch the sunlight has been used to flavour wine in the old days; thus, less tasty batches were refined to taste like "Muscat". The essential oil has a peculiar, slightly herbaceous and sweet, almost narcotical floral scent. It has many uses in cosmetics, especially in products for mature skin, and is a versatile note in natural perfumery. An extravagant scent that encourages experiments and surprises in many blends. Not to be mistaken for Salvia officinalis, the "cough-syrup" sage!
