Styrax is the resin of the amber tree, which has its name because of the rich and sweet, warm and balsamic amber scent it exudes. Styrax resin has been in high demand as an incense since ancient times; it is mentioned in the Papyrus Ebers. The essential oil is very strong and should by all means be used sparingly. The scent of vanilla and resin that goes well with floral notes unfolds best in a high dilution. A good fixative in perfumes and in soaps. Styrax oil can be very dominant in high concentrations.
