Yes, it does smell of roses. But it is definitely more than just a substitute for rose oil. The fragrant ("graveolens") pelargonium gives us a spicy and sweet, unique and extravagant essential oil with distinct notes of mint and herbs.
This oil is very versatile, as it is gentle to the skin and suits all skin types.
Geranium oil is often used where real rose oil would be too expensive. You can mix a fairly "rosy" soap fragrance made from essential oils: 3 parts geranium, 1 part rosewood and 2 parts palmarosa. Geranium oil blends well with patchouli and lavender and is delicious with vanilla! A must for the natural perfume kit.
The Egyptian geranium oil smells lighter, fresher and more floral than the Chinese geranium oil. The rose note is more distinct.
