Yam roots have a natural content of phytoestrogens, especially diosgenin.
Diosgenin stimulates the production of DHEA in the body. DHEA production drops from the age of 20; this is said to be one important factor in the age process. In skin care, yam root extract is added as an anti-aging ingredient, since it promotes renewal and division of cells, and is said to slow down the skins ageing process.
