Unsaponifiables of lanolin Wool wax alcohol is the unsaponifiable part of wool wax/lanolin, meaning that this part cannot be processes to make soap. It is a potent water-in-oil emulsifier, a solid, half-crystalline wax. It has a similar emulsifying action to lanolin, but without being sticky. Its emulsifying properties can be enhanced by adding cetyl alcohol or beeswax. Unsaponifiable components of plant- and animal-based fats have a very positive effect on the skin, softening it and helping to keep the moisture in.
